Dominican Republic Itinerary Feb 19-28, 2025
Day one. Flight into Santo Domingo and settle into the hotel
Day two. Visit the colonial zone of Santo Domingo where we will have a guided tour of the Columbus family house which was built during the time of Columbus's second voyage to the new world. Next we will visit the first school, the first hospital, and the first fort in the Americas.( Lunch included) In the afternoon we will visit Tres Ojos, three beautiful underground pools near the center of the city, similar to the cenotes of the Yucatan. Overnight in Santo Domingo
Day three. We will leave Santo Domingo, and travel toward Samana. On the way, we will hopefully visit one of the many Major League Baseball academies in the area. (This is dependent on if we can get an appointment to get in) Many young Latin players make there way to the major leagues through one of these camps. Baseball is a huge part of the Dominican culture. Afterward we will make a stop at the monument dedicated to Columbus's arrival to the island. Finally we will head north to Las Terrenas for the a few days.
Day four. Guided whale watching tour through the bay. This is a great way to see humpback whales with their babies in this protected bay. Every year during January and February the whales come to this area to have their young. Excellent guides explain the migration and birthing habits of these huge gentle creatures. Upon our return we will stop off at a nearby island for some lunch , beach time, and snorkeling. This is a really nice day to relax and enjoy one of nature's wonders.
Overnight in Las Terrenas.
Day five. Free day in Las Terrenas. There is a fabulous beach right across the street from our hotel as well as many options for tours in the area. Overnight in Las Terrenas.
Day six. Today we head to the town of Puerto Plata. We will be here for the next 4 nights where we will use this area as a base and also there will be a variety of optional activities to choose from. on our way to Puerto Plata we will make a stop for a swim in a freshwater cenote. Lunch will be included at this stop. This afternoon we will take a tram ride up the mountain overlooking the city. A statue of Christ is on the top of the mountain overlooking the town of Puerto Plata (Silver Port) with spectacular view of the city. Much of the Spanish silver came from this area. Great place for photos. Back to the hotel for the evening.
Day Seven. Today we will take a day trip to Paradise Island. The catamaran makes stops for snorkeling, swimming, and enjoying the sun and scenery. Lunch is included on the tour.
